William J. "Bill" Eargle, age 78, passed away at Pine Pointe Hospice on Saturday, October 14, 2017 after a brief illness. Bill was born on July 11, 1939 in Newberry, South Carolina to parents Bernie Eargle and Marie Pate Eargle, both of whom preceded him in death.
Survivors include his loving and devoted wife, Linda S. Eargle ; sisters Nina (Bobby ) Brown of Charlotte, NC and Margaret Ann (Van) Clark of Rutledge , TN. Also step-children, Kim Edney (Jean) of Clarkston, GA; Amy (Kevin) Hughes of Lizella, Ga. Lee (Marcey) Edney of Dublin, Ga.; granddaughters, Allison Hughes and Abbie Hughes, both of Lizella, Ga. and Mackenzie Edney of Dublin, Ga.; numerous nieces and nephews; sisters in law and brothers in law; Patricia Guy of Macon; Tommy Scarborough of Big Canoe, Ga. Lewis Scarborough of Orlando, FL.; Shirley (Jim) Clark of Newnan, Ga. Also, sadly missing Bill will be his four-legged Yorkie son, Dr. Munchkin.
Mr. Eargle attended public schools in Morehead City, NC and began college at Flora MacDonald College in Red Springs, NC., then transferred to Pembroke College, where he finished his undergraduate degree in education. He then completed graduate degrees from The University of Georgia (MS) and Georgia State University(Ed.S). Bill taught and was a counselor in the Stewart County Schools before moving to the Bibb County School System, from which he retired in 1998 as Director of Research.
Mr. Eargle was the past treasurer of the Bibb Retired Teachers Association and a member of the Georgia Retired Educators Association. He was a member of New Providence Baptist Church of Smarr and the Prayer and Praise Sunday School Class.
Bill was an avid reader, and enjoyed the camaraderie of his Friday Lunch Bunch. The Wellness Center was a favorite hangout. He says he was put on this earth to make people laugh. He loved being PopPop and Grandpa Bill to his granddaughters, and they loved him back just as much. He loved traveling the United States with Spear Travel.
A visitation will be held Monday, October 16, 2017 from 5:00 p.m. till 7:00 p.m. in Fairhaven Funeral Home, 4989 Mount Pleasant Church Road, Macon, followed by a graveside service on Tuesday, October 17, 2017 at 11:00 a.m. in Glen Haven Memorial Gardens. Reverend Brian Moore, of New Providence Baptist Church of Smarr and Reverend Phil Bryant, of Sandy Valley Baptist Church in Warner Robins will officiate.
In Lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the New Providence Baptist Church of Smarr Building Fund, 2560 US 41 South, Forsyth, Ga. 31029; of to the Pine Pointe Hospice, 6261 Peake Road Macon, Ga. 31210.
