Thomas William Jones Jr. "Billy",77, of Byron, Georgia, passed away Sunday April 27, 2025. A private memorial service to honor his life will be held at a later date.
Billy was born November 26, 1947, in Macon, Georgia to the late Mr. Thomas Jones Sr. and Mrs. Dorothy Cannon Trussell, later he gained a second father in the late Mr. Jule Trussell.
Billy was a man whose precision and passion defined him. An expert marksman, he earned numerous trophies for his skill and dedication, a talent that naturally led him to a successful career as Director of Training for the Georgia State Department of Corrections, where he shaped and inspired countless others. Beyond his professional accomplishments, Billy was a devoted family man whose love ran deep. A gifted gunsmith, he combined craftsmanship with care, always willing to lend a hand or share a laugh. Known for his quick wit and playful sense of humor, he was a jokester at heart, bringing joy wherever he went. Stubborn in the best way, with a strong will and an even bigger heart, Billy lived fully, whether perfecting his swing on the golf course or scratching off lottery tickets with a hopeful grin. He also had a special place in his heart for his one and only baby, Sassy, his beloved 19-year-old dog and constant companion. His legacy is one of love, laughter, and lasting impact.
Left to cherish his memory are his sisters, Barbara Skipper, Dianne McLemore, Renee (KC) Harris; loving nieces and nephews, Nikki Harris, Kyle Harris, Lori Mock, Clay Mathis, Kathy Mason, Karen Johnson, Bo Skipper, David Lewis; and an abundance of extended family.
