Thomas Therrell Cunningham, born January 16, 1955, passed away peacefully surrounded by his family and love. He was the beloved son of the late James Clifford Cunningham and Martha Ann Sanders.
He loved a cold beer, good conversation, crossword puzzles, Lewis Grizzard books and especially being surrounded by the people he cared about most. Whether it was through his humor, quick snippy remarks, or just his presence, he brought energy and laughter wherever he went. He believed in enjoying life, keeping things real, and finding joy in the simple moments. He served his country in the U.S Navy, a role he took great pride in. The discipline, independence, and strength he gained during his service stayed with him throughout his life and shaped the man his family knew and loved.
Thomas was preceded in death by his parents; his brother, Jimmy Cunningham; his sister, Benita Bean; and his daughter-in-law, Kelly Hill Cunningham.
He is survived by his children: Brian Cunningham; Tori Cummings (Tommy); and LaTasha Short (Brent). He is also survived by the mother of his children, his three-time bride, and lifelong frenemy, Susan Darlene Cunningham.
Thomas leaves behind a cherished legacy through his grandchildren: Kiera Golphin (Kassandra); Peyton Ward (Max); Triston Thompson; Kamdyn Cunningham; Ashton Short; Dustin Hill (Katie); Kaylee Molton (Kyle); Kelsey Potts (Jacob); Sophia Johnson; Dajon Cummings; Jacari Mann; Jayvean Cummings; and Jeaniah Cummings. He was also blessed with 23 great-grandchildren, who brought him immense pride and joy.
He is further survived by his siblings, Billy Sanders and Gary Cunningham; and by his nieces and nephews: Shawn, Kristen, Brandi, Billy, MaeLeah, Tori, Chelsea, Jordy, and Brody. He also leaves behind Amia Owens, who entered his life as a caretaker and quickly became family.
Thomas was a man of strong convictions, sharp wit, and deep loyalty to those he loved. He valued family, independence, and carried himself with pride throughout his life. His presence, humor, and love will be deeply missed by all who knew him.
Funeral services to honor Thomas’s life will be held on Thursday, February 12, at 3:00 PM in the chapel of FairHaven Funeral Home. Immediately following, he will be laid to rest at Glen Haven Memorial Gardens. The family will greet friends one hour prior to service time.
