Shirley Carol Thompson, 73 of Macon, Georgia passed away peacefully in her sleep on April 10, 2024. The family invites friends to join them for a time of visitation on Sunday, April 14, 2024, from 3:00 – 5:00 PM. Ms. Shirley will be laid to rest privately.
Shirley was born in Macon, Georgia on December 4, 1950. She spent her younger years in Irwinton, Georgia. She was the daughter of the late Wayne Thompson and Dorothy Coleman Thompson (of Wilkinson County.) She was the youngest of three children. Shirley spent all of her adult life in the Citrus County, Florida area, visiting her sister, brother and nieces in Georgia often. She was good at many things including cosmetology, mechanic and was also the copy editor of the Citrus County Chronical newspaper.
She is survived by her son, Allon Sams of Tampa, Florida; daughter Dorothy Bailey of Alabama; two grandsons, Benjamin and Evan Sams of Tampa, Florida; one granddaughter, Brittany Brantley of Alabama; two great grandchildren, Braxton and Brenleigh; and several nieces and nephews.
Shirley spent the last 12 years of her life here in Middle Georgia with her sister, Connie Thompson Kitchens and her nieces, Tina Yancey, Melissa Kitchens, Donna Kitchens and Samantha Tyler. She was so loved and will be missed dearly.
She is preceded in death by her parents, brother, Darrell Thompson; and sister, Connie Thompson Kitchens.
