Shirley James Campbell, 87, went to be with her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ and joined her loving husband in Heaven on Friday, March 26, 2021. The family will have a time of visitation to greet friends on Monday, March 29, 2021 from 6:00-8:00 p.m. at Central Fellowship Baptist Church. Funeral Services to celebrate her life will be held on Tuesday, March 30, 2021 at 11:00 a.m. at Central Fellowship Baptist Church with the Reverends Rodney Queen, Jim Leslie, and John Prettyman officiating. Shirley will be laid to rest Wednesday, March 31, 2021 in a private service for family only at Macon Memorial Park Cemetery.
Shirley was born on December 15, 1933 in Oakland, California to the late Eulan and Virginia James. She married the love of her life, Sherrill Morris Campbell. Together they formed a wonderful life full of love and laughter. Shirley had a compassionate heart and passion for teaching, which led her to teaching for 40 years. She proudly worked at Central Fellowship Christian Academy for 35 years as a third grade teacher. She left her mark on the community and is well known for having former students, or "Campbell's Kids" as they were loving called, to carry on the lessons she taught them throughout life. Shirley not only had a passion for teaching, but also ministry. Shirley and her husband Sherrill had a ministry at the Macon Rescue Mission. She loved her Lord and her family, and would pray for them by name twice a day. Her greatest joy came from being a wife, mother, grandmother, and teaching.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband of 62 years, Sherrill Morris Campbell, two daughters; Ellen Leslie and Janet Campbell and one brother; Bill James
Left to cherish her memory is her loving daughter; Margie Price (Ken), Son-in-law; Dean Leslie (Sandy). Grandchildren; Glenn Cook (Jennifer), Josh Price (Mariana), Matt Rich (Charity), Becky Crutchfield (Gabe), Sarah Price, Andrea Speckhaus (Dustin), Sharon Diedrich (Michael), Jim Leslie (Bethany), Lindsey Leslie, Josh Horne, Brooke Horne-Fuentes, and Mathew Horne and 22 great grandchildren.
