Shelby Jean Skaggs, 86, of Macon, Georgia, departed for her heavenly home on October 17, 2023. The daughter of the late Frank and Sally Goins, she was born on October 1, 1937 in Manchester, Kentucky.
Originally from Louisville, Kentucky, Jean found her forever home in Macon, Georgia in 1980. She later retired from Brown and Williams Tobacco Company as a Making Operator in Fabrication (1993). Throughout her life, she embarked on memorable vacations and adventures to Israel, Germany, Las Vegas, Hawaii, New York and New Orleans (etc.), however her true love was spending time in Panama City Beach, Florida with her friends and family.
She possessed a giving spirit and passion for life and was a loving mother, grandmother, and friend who enjoyed life to the fullest. A vivid card shark, she loved playing cards and games, eating her favorite foods and being with friends and her family. She also enjoyed talking on the phone and keeping in touch with her loved ones. A strong believer in the Christian church, she found strength and peace in her faith and was a longtime member of Lawrence Drive Baptist Church.
Her memory will be forever treasured by her daughter, Donna Lynn McDonald (James) of Winston-Salem, NC; her grandchildren, Danielle Johnson (Scott) and Christopher McDonald; her sisters Betty Bussiere and Roberta Green; and many other relatives and friends who will miss her dearly. In addition to her parents, Jean was preceded in death by her daughter, Debbie Lynn Richerson, and sisters, Lois Dunn and Lula Cissell. Former spouse of Fred W. Richerson and Larry F. Skaggs.
The family will receive visitors on October 27, 2023, from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at the FairHaven Funeral Home. A memorial service will be held on October 28, 2023, at 11:00 a.m. at the Lawrence Drive Baptist Church, followed by burial at the Glen Haven Memorial Gardens.
Jean's life was a blessing to all who knew her… she never met a stranger. She will always be remembered for her smile, kindness, generosity, faith and love of family and travel.
