Sarah Eugenia Etheredge Powers, 85, of Macon, passed away on Monday, May 18, 2026, just 36 hours before her adoring husband of 66 years, Richard Allen Powers, Sr. A celebration of their lives will be held on Tuesday, May 26, at 12:00 PM in the chapel of FairHaven Funeral Home with Pastor, Don Barber officiating. The family will greet friends one hour prior to service time.
Sarah Powers, affectionately known as Honey, passed away leaving behind a legacy of love, faith, service, and devotion to family and community. She was a devoted wife, loving mother, cherished grandmother, and treasured great-grandmother whose life was centered around caring for others and making those around her feel valued and loved.
Sarah dedicated much of her professional life as an office manager at Plastic Surgery Associates, where she faithfully served for many years before later continuing her career at Primary Pediatrics. She brought warmth, compassion, and a tireless work ethic into every role she held, touching the lives of countless coworkers, patients, and families along the way.
Some of Sarah’s greatest gifts were found not in titles or accomplishments, but in the countless lives she impacted through simple acts of love and generosity. Despite never learning to swim herself, Sarah somehow managed to teach more than thirty children how to swim — a beautiful reflection of who she was: someone who believed in others, encouraged them, and helped them find confidence, even in areas she herself had never conquered.
After retirement, Sarah and her husband Richard found joy in moving to the mountains of Rabun County, a place they loved dearly. There, Sarah continued serving others by helping manage the law office of English, Tunkle, & Smith. Yet her heart for service extended far beyond work. Together, Sarah and Richard founded Richard’s Kids, a nonprofit organization dedicated to serving underprivileged children in Rabun County. Through their compassion and generosity, they made a lasting difference in the lives of many families and children who needed hope and support.
Sarah was also a passionate and unwavering Georgia Bulldog fan. Whether cheering from the sidelines, gathered around a television, or celebrating victories with family and friends, her Bulldog spirit was always strong.
Above all else, Sarah and Richard built a life rooted in serving others. They opened their hearts, their hands, and their lives to those around them, leaving behind a legacy defined not by what they had, but by what they gave. Sarah’s love, strength, kindness, and servant’s heart will continue to live on through the family she adored and the many lives she touched.
She will be deeply missed, forever loved, and remembered always.
“Well done, good and faithful servant.”
In addition to her parents, Sarah was preceded in death by her daughter, Leslie Heather Powers Miller and siblings, Pamela Sanford and Louis Etheredge.
Left to cherish Sarah's memory are her children, Kimberly Powers, Richard A. Powers, Jr., (Tami), and Josh Powers (Miranda); grandchildren, Jake Newberry (Gabby), Leighann Newberry (Amanda), Haley Powers (Caitlyn), and Cole Miller; and great-grandchildren, Gracie, Autumn, Asher, Gunner, Noah, Jax, and Lilly.
In lieu of flowers, the family graciously requests donations be made in Sarah's honor to: Richards Kids at www.richardskids.org
