Rev. Roy Hopkins

Reverend Roy Jackson Hopkins: 84, of Byron, Georgia, went to be with his Lord and Savior, Wednesday, June 17, 2015. A memorial service to celebrate his life will be held Saturday, June 20, 2015, in the chapel of FairHaven Funeral Home, 4989 Mount Pleasant Church Road, Macon at 11:00 a.m. A private family interment will be held in Glen Haven Memorial Gardens. The Reverend Jimmy Corbitt will officiate. The family will greet friends following the conclusion of the service at the funeral home.

Born in Chilhowie, Virginia, he was the son of the late William McKinley Hopkins and Sadie Melvina Haga Hopkins. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Jackie Hopkins, his brother, Keith Hopkins, and sister Naomi Noonkester.

Reverend Hopkins attended Lees-McRay College in Banner Elk, North Carolina on a football scholarship. He then left to join the Air Force and proudly served our country during the Korean Conflict. After which Jack moved to Georgia to attend Mercer University, where he received a Bachelor's degree in 1956. He became ordained in Macedonia Baptist Church in Chilhowie, Virginia and was a charter member of the Glenwood Hills Baptist Church in Macon. He was also a member of the Tattnall Square Presbyterian Church. Reverend Hopkins served as a missionary in Mexico for eight years, and established an orphanage.

He is survived by his loving wife, Dana Cross Hopkins of Byron, Ga. a granddaughter, which they raised as their own, Kristi Downs (Bob) of Byron, Ga. Sons, Bill Hopkins (Pamela) of Macon; Jeff Hopkins (Donna) of Monroe County, Ga.; Peter Hopkins (Marilyn) of Bolingreen, Kentucky; Jack Edmund Hopkins(Brenda) of Perry, Ga.; Daughter, Darlene Brundrick (Tony) of Juliette, Ga..; Step-Sons: Robert Hatfield (Brenda) of Macon; and John Hatfield (Tracy) of Warner Robins, Ga. Brother, Lowell Hopkins (Faye) of Lizella, Ga. 21 grandchildren and several great grandchildren.

Flowers will be accepted, but memorials may be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, Tennessee 38105.
