Roberta Whiting Smith, 80, of Byron, passed away peacefully and went to be with her Lord and Savior, Thursday June 16, 2016, with her loving family by her side. Funeral Services to honor her life will be held Monday, June 20 at 2:00 in her home church, Byron Baptist Church, which she loved dearly. The Reverend Brad Blackmon will officiate with Reverend James C. Richland, her grandson speaking. Burial will be immediately following in Glen Haven Memorial Gardens. The family will have a time of visitation, Sunday, June 19 from 2:00 to 4:00 at FairHaven Funeral Home, 4989 Mount Pleasant Church Road, Macon.
Born in Kansas to the late George and Margorie Whiting, Roberta was formerly employed by Institutional Wholesaler Incorporated as a Business Manager. She was an extremely active member of Byron Baptist Church where she taught the Gleaners Sunday School Class. She also enjoyed singing in the choir, which she did for more than 45 years. One of her true passions in life was Gardening, Farming, and being outside. She kept a full garden all year which she enjoyed doing with her husband. She could grow some of the most beautiful flowers you have ever seen. Roberta also spent time watching birds eat from her bird feeder. She was an avid animal lover.
Roberta was greeted at the gates of heaven by her parents, George and Margorie Whiting, 4 brothers, George Whiting, Jr., Howard Whiting, Frank Whiting and Robert Whiting.
Left to cherish her memory is her loving of husband of 46 years, Carvis James Smith, 2 adoring daughters; Donna S. Richland (Harold) and Debbie S. Day (William). 6 Grandchildren; Joseph Scarborough, Andrew Richland, James C. Richland, Katharine Whitley, Elizabeth George, and Kristin Greer. 11 Great-Grandchildren; 1 Sister; Frances Manry; and Nieces and Nephews; Jeanne Britt, Elizabeth "Prissy" Booth (Mike), Patrick Manry, Gary Manry, Paul Manry (Frances), Mike Manry, David Whiting (Sandra), Nicholas Whiting (Cindy), Richard Whiting, and Christopher Whiting. But Roberta's kind spirit and sweet soul will be greatly missed by all who knew her.
