Robert Sanders
August 6, 1933 — April 18, 2025
Robert Eugene "Bobby" Sanders answered God's calling on Friday, April 18, 2025 at the age of 91 years and 8 months in Macon, Georgia. Robert was preceded in death by his loving wife of 70 years, Frances Jane Sanders and daughter Frances "Baby Jane" Sanders of Jacksonville, FL. His father was William C. Sanders, and his mother was Corrie Ethel Burch-Sanders of Macon, GA. Robert survived his sisters Martha, Evelyn, Betty Jean and his brothers Clyde and Jerry.
A funeral service to honor his life will be held on Wednesday, April 30, 2025, in the Chapel of Fairhaven Funeral Home. The family will receive friends 30 minutes prior to the service. Immediately following the service, Mr. Sanders will be laid to rest at Rose Hill Cemetery. Mr. Andy Pickens will officiate the services.
Robert was born in Twiggs County, Georgia and was raised in Macon, GA. Robert attended Lanier High School in Macon and thereafter pursued a career in the United States Coast Guard. Robert's career spanned from 1952 to 1979 when he retired after twenty-seven years of service as a Chief Warrant Officer 4 specializing in Communications. During his career Robert was a radioman aboard the USCG Cutters Nemesis and Androscoggin. Later in his career, Robert was also the Commander of Radio Station NMF in Boston, MA, Radio Station NMR in San Juan, PR and Radio Station NMG in New Orleans, LA where he enhanced the performance of those stations. In addition to his honorable career in the Coast Guard; Robert was also a loving husband and father. Robert is survived by his daughters, Brenda Darlene Bryson (predeceased by her husband, Billy) of Newton, MA, Melissa (Kevin) Frances of Macon, Angela (Keith) Michlig of Leesburg, Ga; sons, Robert Sanders (predeceased by his wife, Jane) formerly of McDonough, GA and Douglas (Andrea) Sanders of Smyrna, GA.
Robert was also the proud and loving Grandfather of Shannon Bryson Yeradi, Amie Bryson, Kelley Bryson Torcasio, Billy Bryson, Meagan Bryson, Heather Schexnayder Overman, David Schexnayder, Jacob Schexnayder, Daniel Sanders, Robby Sanders, Colin Sanders, Brayden Michlig, and Brantley Michlig. Robert was also the beloved great grandfather of several great grandchildren as well as many nieces and nephews.
Robert was a great yet humble man, a highly skilled Coast Guard Officer, loving husband, a loyal friend, mentoring father, supportive grandfather and caring great grandfather. Robert will be remembered by everyone whose lives he touched with his presence, compassion, love, wit and wisdom. While we mourn his loss, we also celebrate his long fulfilling life and the happiness and wonderful memories he inspired throughout his lifetime.
