Robert Jerome Cohen (Jerry) passed away on the night of March 9, 2025. He was 63 years old. He passed away peacefully, asleep in his bed, at his home on Sandy Ridge Drive in Twiggs County.
Jerry was born on September 20, 1961, in Hamilton, Ohio. His family moved to Covington, and later Oxford City Limits. He graduated from Newton County High School.
Jerry enlisted in the Navy, but after shoulder dislocation issues, he was medically discharged.
He worked in several jobs during his life, including the Lithonia Lighting Distribution Center in Conyers, Ga. He also worked for Home Team Sports in Macon and later worked as the manager of the Home Team Sports Augusta location. More recently he worked as an electrical assistant at Starr Electric, until he was disabled from an injury that ended his working days.
Jerry was an honest man with a good heart. He loved listening to music and was particularly fond of the Rolling Stones. His music collection was impressive. He flirted with learning the guitar, and even though he never mastered it, he enjoyed trying.
He never married, nor had any children. He is survived by a sister, Marsha Frances Cohen Pippin Carter, and a brother, Sam Cohen and his wife Alice Cohen. Other living family members include a nephew, Dilmus Pippin, Jr., (Thumper), great nephews Dakoda Pippin, and Cole Richards, two nieces, Misty Cohen Richards and her husband Tom Richards, Paula Ann Pippin Oheir, and a great niece Tori Taylor, and a great-great nephew Brantley Holmes.
Preceding family deaths include his mother, Pauline Edwards Cohen of Lexington, GA and his father, Otto Benjamin Cohen, from Ohio. He is also predeceased by a brother-in-law who he was very close to, Terry Leroy Bruce Carter, who passed away on March 3, 2025, just 6 days before Jerry passed. The following Sunday, March 9. Jerry attended Terry's church, and had lunch with his family, celebrating his sister Marsha's birthday. He called his sister and brother that Sunday night and said he had seen a rainbow on his way home and felt that it was Terry reaching out to us. Those were the last two conversations he had, before passing away later that night. Jerry will be greatly missed by his family and friends.
Jerry's memorial service will be held on Saturday, April 26, at Gaither's Church, starting at 2:00 PM. Terry was a long-time active member and leader at Gaither's Church, and his service, with Military Honor Guard, will be held immediately following Jerry's. The church is located at 1375 Newton Factory Bridge Road, about an hour and a half north of Macon, and about twenty minutes south of Covington.
