Pat H. Bouchillon lived her life in service to others. A native of Alexander City, Alabama, she graduated from nearby Jacksonville State University and Baylor University in Waco, Texas, with Masters and Doctorate degrees. It was her post graduate training at the Alfred Adler Institute in Chicago that set her course on a dual Ministry that lasted her a lifetime.
First, she lived out her calling through mentoring and teaching young psychology students as a college professor. It was in that role that she poured herself into the shaping of a new generation that shared her commitment of serving others through Christ. But Pat was known for more than her work in the field of academia.
She extended her dual calling through a ministry as a mental health therapist, helping children through adults with many problems that could be addressed through clinical approaches wrapped in a Christian perspective. It was the holistic approach to healing that distinguished Pat among her peers.
Pat always equated her love of helping others with her love of and support from her husband, Bill, a Southern Baptist Minister and fellow post-graduate study student of the Alfred Adler Institute. Together, they served in several churches on a variety of college campuses. At the collegiate level, Pat ministered in Education and Psychology Departments and Bill in Psychology Departments.
Pat and Bill wrote 45 professional and religious articles. Pat was a primary author, but she insisted Bill be listed as co-author since he made suggestions and occasional additions. The Lord led them to serve him in ten states-all those states except New Mexico between the Atlantic and Pacific Oceans and Missouri and Tennessee.
Their shared journey produced two children, daughter, Cheri (and husband Robert Bennett and their two sons, Jonathan and David); and son Lynn (and wife Kim Bouchillon and their daughters, Marissa and Morgan). Those marriages resulted in four great-grandchildren; Daniel Bennett, Audrey Bennett, Grace Bennett and Becka Maul.
On November 6, 2019 she and Bill reached a milestone that is shared by few couples; They celebrated 73 years of marriage. Records reveal that only one and 100 couples observe 70 years together.
Pat's hobbies included extensive reading, Bible study and teaching, travel, sewing and writing.
