Michael Courtney

Michael Courtney, 74, of Macon, Georgia, passed away peacefully on Friday, September 11, 2026. He was a beloved husband, father, brother, uncle, and friend whose kindness, hard work, and unique personality will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.

Michael was born September 9, 1952, in Macon, Georgia, to the late Mr. Robert Courtney and Mrs. Marie Davidson. He was a hardworking man who took great pride in providing for and caring for his family. Michael spent many dedicated years working on the Hot End at Anchor Glass, a job he faithfully performed because of the love he had for his family and his desire to provide for them. His family meant everything to him, and he demonstrated that love through a lifetime of hard work, devotion, and sacrifice.

Michael found happiness in the simple things in life. He was an avid reader and loved collecting newspapers, always taking an interest in the stories and happenings of the world around him. He was a loyal fan of the Georgia Bulldogs and the Atlanta Braves and enjoyed following his favorite teams. He also had a great appreciation for antiques and took pleasure in collecting things that carried a little history with them.

Some of Michael's fondest moments were spent at home, sitting on his back porch and watching the birds. He loved feeding them and took great enjoyment in seeing them return day after day. He also enjoyed growing his little tomato plants and took pride in tending to them. Michael was a man who paid attention to details and was very particular in his ways, and those who knew him best would probably tell you that he had a "right way" for just about everything. That included the correct way to fill a hummingbird feeder, a detail he was certainly not willing to compromise on. Michael had a tremendous love for animals, especially St. Bernards, and that compassion extended to the animals that shared his home and his life.

Above all else, Michael cherished his family. He shared more than 55 years of marriage with the love of his life, his late wife, Sara Lavon Courtney. Their life together was built upon love, devotion, and a lifetime of memories. Even after her passing, Sara remained an important part of Michael's heart and his life.

In addition to his parents and his beloved wife, Sara, Michael was preceded in death by his brother, Bobby Courtney.

Those left to cherish Michael's memory include his son, Jason Courtney; his daughter, Jennifer Courtney; his beloved fur babies, Chase and Roscoe the grand cat; along with numerous nieces, nephews, extended family members, and friends who were blessed to know him.

Michael will be remembered for his kind and sweet nature, his strong work ethic, his particular ways that made him uniquely Michael, and the love he had for his family, animals, and the simple pleasures that made life meaningful. Though he will be deeply missed, the memories he created and the love he shared will remain in the hearts of those who knew him.

A graveside service to celebrate Michael's life will be held at 2:00 PM on Tuesday, September 15, 2026, at Glen Haven Memorial Gardens Cemetery.
