Mary Pope

Mary Nell Goff Pope, 90, of Macon Ga, passed away January 20, 2022. A celebration of her life will be held on Tuesday, January 25, at 2:00 PM at Gateway Fellowship Church of God with her grandson Lance Foster officiating. The family will greet friends one hour prior to service time. Entombment will be private.
Mrs. Pope was born October 24, 1931, in Enigma Georgia, daughter of the late Milton Gerbert Goff and Lola Aline Thomas Goff. She was married at 17 years old to the love of her life, Robert Mitchell Pope, who passed away 15 days before she did. The two had just celebrated their 72nd anniversary on August 20, 2021.
As a new bride, she farmed alongside her husband for five to six years, picking cotton, working in tobacco, hauling firewood to the house, and all while starting her family. She and her family moved to Macon when she was 22-23. For many years, she worked as a housewife, followed by many more years working in the Big Star meat department before retiring. She was a Sunday School teacher for many years, teaching young and old. She often took her daughters to the nursing home to visit. She mailed out a multitude of caring cards in her life to people who often indicated the card was so timely due to their need.
She is a member of Stone Edge Assembly of God, yet her life, like that of her husband, portrayed much more than church membership. At a young age, she didn't simply say a prayer, but after several nights of crying at a revival meeting, found him as her "lord and savior" at home.
On January 20th, she found out that her loving husband wasn't at home as she'd left him, but in Heaven awaiting her arrival. Mom and Pop (now reunited), would say, "God Was Faithful throughout their life, and amazingly so at the end." She was a loving mother whose children called her blessed.
Her first child, Robert Wayne Pope, died at 2 days old (Now Reunited). She is survived by her remaining children: Jerry Glynn Pope (Deb), Bobbie Jean Whittle (Herschel), James Ronald Pope (Melba), Janet Teresa Eddy, Angela Lynn Hogg (Shawn),and John Jones. Grandchildren include Jarrod Persons (Kelly), Corey Pope (Monica), Paula Roberts, Darrell Whittle, Herschel Whittle Jr., Tess Pate (Mic), Angel McCall (James), Crystal Higdon, Tyler Pope, Courtney Jones (Joe), Ashley Eddy, Cassidy Eddy (Justin), Lance Foster (Linda, and Katie Waits. He is survived by numerous great grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren.
