Marthel "Marty" Hooker Gay

Marthel "Marty" Hooker Gay, 81, of Byron, Georgia passed away peacefully on Thursday, November 28, 2024. A funeral service to honor her life will be held on Tuesday, December 3, 2024, at 2:00 PM at Mikado Baptist Church. The family will have a time of visitation one hour prior to the service at the church. Immediately following, Marty will be laid to rest next to her sweetheart, Charlie, in Glen Haven Memorial Gardens. Pastor Ed Chambliss will officiate.
Marty was born in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania on November 16, 1943, to the late Bill and Bernice Hooker. She graduated from McEvoy High School and then went on to pursue a career in Medical Technology, graduating from Macon Hospital School of Medical Technology in 1963. She married her sweetheart, Charlie, in July of 1965. They built a life they loved and created many memories together. She was a member of Mikado Baptist Church where she was a devoted member; she served as a Sunday School Teacher, Awana Leader and was a member of the church choir. Her most cherished memories were with her children and grandchildren. She was a simple woman that enjoyed laughing, crafting and always making those around her smile. She will be dearly missed by all those who knew and loved her.
In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her adoring husband of 55 years, Charles Gay; brother, Bert Hooker.
Left to cherish her memory is her son, Doug (Heather) Gay; daughter, Angela (Mike) Sheffield; brother, Wilburn (Atheia) Hooker; sister-in-law, Vernie Hooker; grandchildren, Amanda, Ally, Coleman, Aaliyah, Kyla; great grandchildren, Leighton, Lautner, and Barrett.
The family would like to extend an invitation for friends and family to join them following the service for a time of fellowship at; 85 Union Church Road Byron Georgia, 31008.
In lieu of flowers, the family graciously asks that you make donations in Marty's honor to the Mikado Baptist Building Fund.
