Fort Valley

Luis Alcantar, 87, of Fort Valley, Georgia, passed away peacefully on March 17, 2026. A service to celebrate his life may be held at a later date.

Luis was born on November 30, 1938, in Michoacán, Mexico, to the late Mr. Jesus Alcantar and Mrs. Lucia Vilchis Alcantar. In his early years, he worked as a butcher in Mexico before immigrating to the United States, where he built a life centered around hard work, family, and faith.

A farmer by trade and a provider at heart, Luis had a deep passion for the land. He loved growing his crops, caring for his animals, and spending time outdoors. His appreciation for food was unmatched, he was especially known for his famous carnitas, a dish that brought family and friends together time and time again. At one point, he proudly owned and operated his own restaurant, sharing his love of cooking with the community.

Luis found his greatest joy in his family. He cherished a full house, delighting in the laughter and energy of children running across his large property in Fort Valley. He was known for his strong will, stubborn and hard-headed at times, but also for his warm spirit, sense of humor, and the way he loved to laugh with those around him.

In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his son, Alejandro Alcantar; and daughter, Malena Alcantar.

He leaves behind a legacy of love and devotion in his beloved wife of 67 years, Jova Alvarado Alcantar; his sons, Jamie (Ximena) Alcantar, Oswaldo (Deisy) Alcantar, Enrique Alcantar, Jose Luis (Eva) Alcantar, and Ricardo (Susan) Alcantar; his daughters, Maria Hernandez, Carmen Diaz, Leonor (Mario) Gutierrez, and Irma (Ignacio) Casas; his daughter-in-law, Christy Alcantar; 32 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; as well as many cousins and extended family members who will forever cherish his memory.

Luis Alcantar’s life was one of dedication, resilience, and deep love for those around him. His legacy will live on in the traditions he passed down, the meals shared at his table, and the family he so dearly loved.
