Mrs. Rhyne was born July 31, 1930, in Belmont, North Carolina to the late Mr. Warren Lester Smith and Mrs. Mary Pauline Smith, the eldest of seven siblings. Mrs. Rhyne was a devout follower of Jesus Christ. After graduating from Scarritt College for Christian Workers in Nashville, Tennessee, Mrs. Rhyne was involved in the development of a pilot school program to meet the educational needs of migrant camp children in the Utica, New York area. Returning home to Belmont, she married the love of her life, Mr. James D. Rhyne (J.D.) and moved to Twiggs County where she continued working in public service as a Christian Social Worker. While living in Twiggs County, she and her husband began raising their family of four sons, moving to Macon, Georgia in 1963. Mrs. Rhyne was an active member in several local Macon churches during her life (Aldersgate United Methodist, Bloomfield United Methodist, and Liberty Methodist). She was a loving wife and mother, who taught her family in word and by example how to live life, by imparting the knowledge that God is our creator and his Son Jesus Christ is our Lord and Savior. Always kind, always considerate, always compassionate, she exemplified Christ's love for others. Her gracious spirit and uplifting life-lessons will continue to guide and inspire her loving family.
