Louise Smith Rhyne

July 31, 1930 — February 14, 2025

Louise Rhyne, of Macon, Georgia passed away peacefully on Friday, February 14, 2025. A celebration of her life will be held on Friday, February 21, 2025 at Liberty Church at 11:00 AM. The family would like to invite friends to join them one hour prior to the service for a time of visitation. Immediately following the service, Ms. Rhyne will be laid to rest in Glen Haven Memorial Gardens. Pastor Jim Duggan will officiate the services.

Mrs. Rhyne was born July 31, 1930, in Belmont, North Carolina to the late Mr. Warren Lester Smith and Mrs. Mary Pauline Smith, the eldest of seven siblings. Mrs. Rhyne was a devout follower of Jesus Christ. After graduating from Scarritt College for Christian Workers in Nashville, Tennessee, Mrs. Rhyne was involved in the development of a pilot school program to meet the educational needs of migrant camp children in the Utica, New York area. Returning home to Belmont, she married the love of her life, Mr. James D. Rhyne (J.D.) and moved to Twiggs County where she continued working in public service as a Christian Social Worker. While living in Twiggs County, she and her husband began raising their family of four sons, moving to Macon, Georgia in 1963. Mrs. Rhyne was an active member in several local Macon churches during her life (Aldersgate United Methodist, Bloomfield United Methodist, and Liberty Methodist). She was a loving wife and mother, who taught her family in word and by example how to live life, by imparting the knowledge that God is our creator and his Son Jesus Christ is our Lord and Savior. Always kind, always considerate, always compassionate, she exemplified Christ's love for others. Her gracious spirit and uplifting life-lessons will continue to guide and inspire her loving family.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband James D. Rhyne; son, Dr. Phil Rhyne and his wife Elna Rhyne; and brother, Howard Smith.

Left to cherish her memory are her sisters, Virginia Ellington and Caren Neely; brothers, Clyde Smith, Ralph Smith (Rose Mary), and Roy Smith; sons, Tony Rhyne (Cindy), Eddie Rhyne (Judy), and Tim Rhyne (Genevieve); grandchildren, Carla Moyer (Lee), Amber Hanel (Jeff), Tiffani John, Paige Rhyne (Greg), John Rhyne (Becky), Kyle Matthew Rhyne (Sarah); great-grandchildren, JT Moyer, Jasmine Hanel, Aric Moyer, Eli Hanel, Julie Rhyne; grand-goddaughter, Jojo Booker; and a host of cousins, nieces, and nephews.
