~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Linda Dale Humphrey Embry was born on September 12, 1940 in Orlando, Florida to Alice Eudora Parham and Zelbert Dale (Z.D.) Humphrey. Her younger years took her to Arkansas, the Humphrey "homeplace in the hollow" Tennessee and finally to Georgia.
Linda started 3rd grade at Heard School and moved on to Miller High School for Girls where she graduated in 1958. Along the way she discovered her love of the church, sewing, baking and gardening. From age 14 Linda competed in 4-H Dress Revue, but it wasn't until 1958 that she won a trip to Chicago to represent Georgia in the National 4-H Dress Revue. That same year she also baked the best cherry pie in Georgia and went on to compete in the National Red Cherry Institute baking contest in 1959.
She met the love of her life, John Milam (J.M) Embry at church. Their first date was in June of 1957 at the young age of 17. It was this handsome young man on a Harley that swept her off her feet and it wasn't long before they were "going steady". While Linda was away at David Lipscomb College they wrote each other regularly, with John visiting twice. They saw a Pat Boone Show on Valentine's Day 1959 and attended the freshmen luncheon in May. During Linda's second year at David Lipscomb they continued their exchange of letters, which led to September 10, 1960, when they were married at the Macon Church of Christ. They began their life together in Chamblee, Ga where John was still in school at Southern Tech. A job in Lawrenceville kept them in Georgia where five years later a daughter, Jenifer Malinda, was born. After some time in Tennessee for another job, they returned to Macon where their son, John Nathan, was born in 1969.
Linda was a very devoted wife, mother and above all Christian. She worked from home raising their two children and creating a beautiful house for her family. In addition to continuing her art education at Wesleyan College she stayed active in the church teaching children's Bible School as well as in PTA, Riverside Homemakers, and the neighborhood Gourmet Club. Later she returned to work teaching all levels of sewing at Macon Technical School and Macon Sewing Center. She was the primary seamstress for interior designer Gary Gay. Later she became a co-owner of the quilt shop Calico and Lace. In 1988 Linda helped found the Macon chapter of the American Sewing Guild. Throughout all of these adventures, she continued sewing for family and friends and teaching sewing to as many young girls as possible.
Linda discovered her love of travel as a young lady, starting with family trips out West and to Florida and then trips to Chicago her freshman year at David Lipscomb. These trips led to more travel to foreign lands such as Jerusalem and Israel, Germany, Austria, Italy, France, Nova Scotia and many Caribbean Islands. She traveled all over the U.S. including New England, the Grand Canyon and many points in between. Linda never lost her desire to experience new people, places, and things, with most of them captured by her ever present camera!
Linda Dale Humphrey Embry passed away at home October 27, 2015 after a courageous battle with breast cancer. She will be sorely missed by her family and her many friends.
