Larry Jewett McKinney Sr.

Larry Jewett McKinney Sr., 77, of Lizella, Georgia passed away peacefully on Saturday April 18, 2026, surrounded by his family. A graveside service to honor his life will be 11:00 AM Thursday April 23, 2026, at Lizella Baptist Church Cemetery. 2950 South Lizella Rd. Lizella, GA 31052. The family invites friends to join them one hour prior for a time of visitation. Pastor Chris Minton will be officiating all services.

Larry was born December 30, 1948, in Macon, Georgia to the late Jewett and Juanita McKinney. On April 19, 1969, Larry married the love of his life, Gail (Parks) McKinney. After a 6-year employment at Armstrong, Larry began his career at Georgia Power where he retired, as a boiler mechanic, after 40 years of service. His hobbies included hunting, camping, playing softball, cooking his famous Brunswick stew, and spending time with his family and friends. He was a member of Masonic Lodge #663 in Lizella and the Al Sihah Shriners organizations. Larry was passionate, warm, and kind but known for being a jokester by making everyone laugh anywhere he was.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his father–in-law and mother-in-law, Frank and Ophelia Parks, and cousin, Mark Yarn.

Larry is survived by his loving wife of 57 years, Gail McKinney; son, Larry McKinney Jr. (Sheri) of Warner Robins; daughter Leslie Twilley (John Sr) of Fort Valley; and loyal companion, Dakota; he was a cherished “Granddaddy” to 11 grandchildren; 9 great grandchildren; sister, Renee Carroll; brother-in-law, Bo Parks (Lucy); sister-in-law, Linda Scott. He will be sadly missed by many family, relatives and friends.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Larry’s name to Men’s Ministries at Lizella Baptist Church.
