It is with immense sadness that we share the passing of Judy Carolyn Adams, 80, of Lizella, Georgia. Judy passed peacefully into her Lord’s hands on May 5, 2026. A memorial service to honor and celebrate her life will be held at 3:00pm on Monday, May 11, 2026 at FairHaven Funeral Home. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service.
Born on December 20, 1945, to Alta Bright and Charles Benningfield, Judy was born in Louisville, Kentucky. Following the early passing of her mother, she was lovingly raised there by her aunt and uncle, Rosa and James Benningfield. In 1978, she relocated to middle Georgia with her husband, Dave, after his transfer with Brown & Williamson.
Judy will be remembered as a spirited firecracker with a stubborn streak, whose greatest devotion was always to her family and friends. Judy loved cooking and always had extra bacon grease on hand to season even the healthiest vegetables with a little bit of “country cookin.’” When she wasn’t in the kitchen trying a new recipe, she could usually be found watching cooking shows, crime dramas, or MMA fights alongside Dave. During football season, she was an avid fan of both the Kentucky Wildcats and the Georgia Bulldogs (although she always rooted for her dawgs when the teams played each other). Her other pastimes included reading, sewing, traveling, and connecting with her friends on social media, and everyone who knew her knew she loved Gone With the Wind.
Judy is survived by her beloved husband, David; her devoted daughter, Jennifer Murray (Brad Hunt); and her cherished grandchildren, Storm Murray (Brian Henderson) and Phoenix Murray, along with Phoenix’s significant other, Mackenzie Birkett. She is also survived by her sons, Joe Brooks (Debbie) and Mike Brooks (Ally); her daughter, Julie Sutter (Dennis); and their families; as well as her treasured niece Rowena McCubbins.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her siblings, and many extended family members, including her cherished cousin, Virginia “Sis” Meredith, who was like a sister to her and held a very special place in her heart.
Though she will be extremely missed, she will be remembered by her sense of humor and her fierce love for her family and friends.
