Joseph Elbert Evans entered into heaven on January 25, 2016 after a lengthy illness. He was born on December 6, 1944 in Eastman, GA to James Richard and Mary Giddens Evans. Joe served in the U. S. Navy from 1963 to 1967 and moved to Macon after he was honorably discharged from the service. He was a firefighter with the Macon Fire Department for several years before he joined the Bibb County Sheriff's Office where he served as a deputy sheriff for 26 years. Joe was an active member of Lawrence Drive Baptist Church and a member of Gideons International. He was also a member of the National Fraternal Order of Police, Peace Officers Association of Georgia, and the VFW. He loved to fish, tinker in his workshop, and restore bicycles that he donated to children in need. Joe is survived by his daughters Jennifer Evans (Paul Schramm) and Becky Evans (Lee Hilligas), sons Corey Evans and Joseph Evans. He is also survived by his brothers Earl Evans and Tom Evans as well as many nieces and nephews. Visitation will be Friday, January 29, 2016 from 5-7 pm at FairHaven Funeral Home, 4989 Mount Pleasant Church Road. The funeral service will be held on Saturday, January 30, 2016, 11 am, at Lawrence Drive Baptist Church, 5774 School Road. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Gideons International, PO Box 140800, Nashville, TN 37214.
