John Broadus Thomas, Jr., 82, of Warner Robins, Georgia passed away on Sunday, October 29, 2023. A funeral service to honor his life will be held Thursday, November 2, 2023, at 3:00 PM at Central Baptist Church; 1120 Lake Joy Rd Warner Robins, Georgia 31088. The family will have a visitation one hour prior to the service at the church. Immediately following, Mr. Thomas will be laid to rest in Glen Haven Memorial Gardens. Terry Meeks and Bob Dilks will officiate.
Mr. Thomas was born September 27, 1941, in Thomaston, GA. He was the son of the late John Thomas, Sr. and Hazel Thomas .
He graduated high school and enlisted in the US Navy and proudly served his country aboard the USS Altair. While serving his country, he traveled the world and even spent an extended time living in Barcelona, Spain. Upon returning to the United States, he settled in New York. While living there, he discovered his love and talent for doing hair and entered cosmetology school. The skills he learned there would serve him for a lifetime. He then decided to return to his home state of Georgia and met the love of his life, Dorothy. She was a teacher, and it was his sister's forgotten textbook that led him to seeing her for the very first time. During his life, he became the definition of an entrepreneur; everything from hair salons, hardware stores, lawn & garden/irrigation/landscape businesses to growing Trade Bank International in several different cities. The man knew no limits and there was no obstacle he could not conquer. He even found time to advocate for the Macon Rescue Mission (because he believed in helping others no matter their station in life). He deeply loved his family and friends and his spiritual home, Central Baptist Church. He also served as an ordained deacon for much of his life. He loved helping people and turning "strangers" into "friends." Everyone was "a friend he just hadn't met yet" to him, which made him respected and loved where ever he went. He never shied away from hard work, and he quietly did things to provide for his family most people know nothing about. He loved restoring and working on his '57 Bel-Air and raising his dogs throughout is life. He had a deep love for his dogs who never left his side. He enjoyed driving the church bus on youth group trips for his children. He had many talents such as being fluent in Spanish, to being an auctioneer, and the golden touch to make businesses flourish. He enjoyed having a beautiful home filled with his family and friends. He was incredibly generous of his time and would offer his help to anyone who would ask. His deep voice, his wise advice, his compassion and his ever-present smile will be missed by everyone who had the blessing to have known him. He will be dearly missed by his wife, his son, his daughter, his family and his friends. He was truly a "man among men."
