John Haynes

August 23, 1937 — December 9, 2020

John E. Haynes, 83, of Macon, GA, passed away on Wednesday at his residence. A graveside
service to honor his life will be held at 12:00 noon on Saturday at Glen Haven Memorial
Gardens. The Reverend Richard Vaughn will officiate.
Mr. Haynes was born on August 23,1937 to the late Elvin Elwood and Audrey M. Haynes and
was a life long resident of Macon, Georgia graduating in the class of 1956 from Lanier High
School. John worked the majority of his life in the Petroleum business before slowing down to
part-time work during his retirement years for Palmetto Distributing.
John enjoyed family, UGA football, gardening and fishing. His greatest joy in life was found
through spending time with his family. John was a man that believed in sticking to a routine…
Saturday usually began with a visit to Smiley's Flea market and ended with a quick trip to a
local farmers market while Sunday was a day for the family to gather around the table together.
He was known for growing perfect tomatoes, making a great pot of vegetable soup, fantastic
spaghetti and delicious corn bread. He set an example for each of his children and
grandchildren to be honest, put your best foot forward and to always be there for each other
through the good and bad times. His constant encouragement and love will be greatly missed.
Mr. Haynes was preceded in death by his loving wife, Elvie Whitehurst Haynes; sister, Mary
Haynes Woodell; son, John Kimberly Haynes. Survivors left to cherish his memory include his
two sons, Michael Haynes (Lori), Sidney Haynes (Lori) and daughter in law, Lynn Haynes; eight
grandchildren, Robin Haynes Harris (Chris), Cori Haynes Norman (Stephen), Amber Haynes
Bryant (Malcolm), Michael Haynes, Jr., Sidney Haynes Hicks (Daniel), Abby Haynes, John
Bailey Haynes, and Sidney Reeves Haynes. Great-grandchildren include Kaleb Lee,
Gabby Harris, Ansley Grace Norman, Elvie Kate Norman, Alana Bryant, Braxton Bryant, Alaina
Haynes and Carson Haynes; his two brothers, Elvin Haynes and Jack Haynes (Zoe); several
nieces and nephews.
