Joanne Roberts

April 6, 1933 — September 9, 2023

Joanne Nancy (White) Roberts, 90, of Macon, Georgia passed peacefully from this world on September 9th, 2023. She was born April 6, 1933 to Alma and Percy White in Medway, Massachusetts.

Joanne, the most loving and devoted wife, mother, and grandmother is survived by; sister Iris; children George, Norman (Eddie), Cheryl and Gregory; grandchildren Cobrina, Destiny, Tara, Kayla, Gregory, Charles, Brandon, John and David; great grandchildren Damian, Daren, Alexis, Logan, Hailey, Mason and Jamie. She is preceded in death by her husband Donald; sisters Phyllis, Priscilla (Pat) and Flora; brothers Ray and David and grandson Michael.

Following graduation from Framingham State College, Joanne taught Home Economics before meeting the love of her life, the man that would stay by her side through thick and thin, Don.

Starting their family in Massachusetts, they sought new opportunities in Arizona for two years before returning to Massachusetts to raise their growing family. Joanne was a wonderful wife and mother, actively involved with Boy Scouts, Girl Scouts and her church community.

She became a substitute teacher in the Franklin Elementary schools before moving on to the Wrentham State School.

As their children were flying the nest they sought new opportunities again and an escape from New England winters and relocated to Florida. There Joanne started working for a shoe repair shop that soon became their own family business for 20 years.

While living in Florida, Joanne and Don opened their home to host numerous Brazilian students over many years. A number of these students, their parents and their children, remained close, staying in contact for years following their stays, becoming extended family.

Whether in Massachusetts or Florida, there were always crafts and projects underway, everything from a giant Easter Bunny costume, which she happily hopped through the neighborhood, to bicycle repair, making jams and canning vegetables from the garden. Her hands seemed to never be idle from baking treats with children in her kitchen to never-ending knitting and crocheting projects wherever she found herself.

A memorial service will be planned for sometime this fall.
