Jimmie Angus Chitty entered the pearly gates of Heaven when he passed away peacefully on July 24, 2025, at the age of 88. Services will be held on Friday, August 1, 2025, at 2:00 pm at United Community Church at 2411 Heath Road Macon, GA. Reverend Mark Etcheson and Reverend Cory Maurer will officate. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service. Interment will be private at a later date at the Georgia Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Milledgeville.
Born on September 6, 1936, to Lester Clarice Franklin and George Murray Chitty in Augusta, GA. He lived most of his childhood in Langley, SC. Mr. Chitty was a proud veteran of the United States Air Force and a huge fan of the Atlanta Braves. After traveling mostly on the East Coast in sales for many years he retired from the Macon Transit Authority where he as a bus driver and retired as the driver of "Mitsi" Trolley where he entertained people from all over the world with his wit and knowledge of Macon history. Mr. Chitty's greatest passion was singing gospel music. He began singing at the age of 12. He met his wife, Carole, when he was singing 1st tenor with her father's gospel quartet, the Crusaders. He sang with many groups through the years including The Ronnie Thompson Trio and The Kings Prophets with whom he made an album. He also sang semi-professionally with the Pine Ridge Boys from South Carolina.
Mr. Chitty is predeceased by his parents, two brothers, one sister and a great grandson, Micah Etchison.
Survivors include his wife of 57 years, Carole Brown Chitty, daughters Mitzi Walker (Gene, Dec.) of Stanley, NC, Melinda Marley Boyd of Macon, Georgia, sons Jim Chitty (Debbie) of Graniteville, SC, Frank Marley (Karen) of Buchanan, VA, Troy Chitty (Tracy) of Gray, GA. He is also survived by 11 grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren and 2 great-great grandchildren.
In lieu of flowers donations can be made to the American Heart Association or United Community Church.
