Jim Layson

Jim B. Layson, Jr. "Jimmy", 72, of Macon, passed away peacefully and went to be with his Lord and Savior on Wednesday, November 10, 2021. The family will have a time of visitation to greet friends on Thursday, November 11, 2021 from 5:00-7:00 p.m. at FairHaven Funeral Home. Funeral Services to celebrate his life will be held on Friday, November 12, 2021 at 2:00 p.m. at Lizella Baptist Church with Reverend Chris Minton officiating. Immediately following the service, Mr. Layson will be laid to rest in Glen Haven Memorial Gardens.
Mr. Layson was born on July 17, 1949 in Macon to the late Jim B. Layson, Sr. and Ernestine Layson. He proudly served our country in the United States Navy. After his time in the Navy, Mr. Layson began an impressive 32 year career with Bell South as a telephone engineer. Mr. Layson was a faithful member of Lizella Baptist Church, where he was active in the Paul Kelley Sunday School Class. He loved his Lord with all his heart, and truly enjoyed his bible studies and serving his church. Mr. Layson married the love of his life, Marsha, and together they built a wonderful home, raising their two children and later in life, becoming Papa to his three grandchildren. He was their biggest fan and supporter, and never missed a ballgame or event they were involved with. One of his greatest joys in life came from coaching his daughters, which he did for 17 years. He had the biggest heart, and a genuine, true love for people, always putting others before himself and helping anyone in need.
Left to cherish his memory is his loving family; his wife of 51 years; Marsha Powell Layson. Daughters; Amy Leslie (Mark) and Janna Croot (Harley). Grandchildren; Keaton Wood, Connor Wood and Kennedy Wood. Siblings; Regina Strickland (John) and Sheree Jones (Keith) as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
