Jerry Floyd Alford, 81, of Vidalia, passed away peacefully with his family by his side on Friday, May 4, 2018. A graveside service with military honors will be held Tuesday, May 8, 2018 at 1:00 p.m. in Glen Haven Memorial Gardens. The family will have a time of visitation to greet friends Monday, May 7, 2018 from 6:00 – 8:00 p.m. in FairHaven Funeral Home.
Born on December 20, 1936, to the late John and Hilda Mae Alford, Jerry proudly served our country in the United States Army for three years. After his time in the service, Jerry began his own business, Alford Trucking where he worked tirelessly up until the time of his passing. That legacy will now be carried on by his beloved grandchildren. Jerry was the epitome of a provider, making sure his family, which was his number one priority, was always taken care of. In his free time he loved to read and watch Fox news. He also enjoyed golfing and fishing. His greatest joy in life came from his family and he was his happiest when he was spending time with them.
Jerry was preceded in death by his parents as well as his daughter, Debbie Sheppard and four brothers; Bill, Jack, Jim, and John L. Alford.
Left to cherish his memory is his loving family. His wife of 39 years: Mary Alford. Daughter: Diane Alford, Son; Chuck Howard. Three grandchildren: Matthew Sheppard (Dawn), Joshua Howard, and Becca Peebles (Zach). Two great grandchildren; Emma Grace Sheppard, James Luke Peebles and third on the way. As well as two sisters; Jean Burns and Martha Everidge.
