James Overton Duke

James Overton Duke, a beloved father, grandfather, and great-grandfather, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, September 8th, 2026, at the age of 91. Born on August 31st, 1935, in Livingston, Tennessee, James moved to Macon, Georgia in 1959 after his uncle helped him secure a job at Georgia Power Company, where he worked until his retirement.

James was preceded in death by his devoted wife of 57 years, Helen Burchett Duke, as well as his parents, Sid and Cora Duke. He is survived by his loving daughter, Kim Bowden, and her husband, Greg Bowden, of Macon, GA. He also leaves behind his brother, Charles Duke, of Livingston, Tennessee, and his treasured grandchildren: Ryan Bowden, Stacy (Josh) O'Rear, and Jennifer (Clay) Dykes, as well as great-grandchildren: Brookelyn O'Rear, Nathan O'Rear, Luke O'Rear, Saylor Dykes, Callen O'Rear, and Delaney Dykes.

James retired from Georgia Power Company, where he dedicated over thirty years of service. A proud veteran, he served his country honorably in the United States Army from 1954-1957. His passion for life extended beyond his professional and military achievements; he was an active Shriner and an avid bluegrass musician. Known for his remarkable ability to fix anything, James was always ready to lend a helping hand to his friends and family in need.

Family and friends are invited to celebrate James's life at a funeral service on Thursday, September 10th, 2026, at 11:00 am at the Chapel of Fairhaven Funeral Home in Macon, GA. Prior to the service, a visitation will be held from 10:00 am to 11:00 am at the same location. Pastor Chris Minton will officiate.

James Overton Duke will be deeply missed by all who knew him. His kindness, wisdom, and unwavering love for his family will be remembered and cherished forever.
