James Solomon DeFoe, Sr. 88, of Macon, Georgia passed away peacefully Sunday, January 4, 2015. Funeral services will be held Wednesday, January 7, 2015 at 11:00 a.m. in the Avondale Baptist Church. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Reverend Marty Watson will officiate. The family will greet friends one hour prior to the service starting at 10:00 a.m. till 11:00 a.m., Wednesday in the church.
Born in Oglethorpe, Georgia, he was the son of the late Menta Reliford DeFoe and Annie Laurie Beck DeFoe. He was preceded in death by his loving wife, Virginia C. Patterson DeFoe and two brothers, Rep DeFoe, and Dan DeFoe. He was a retired master plumber and master welder with Sydney Pyles Plumbing, and was a member of the Avondale Baptist Church, where he served as a Deacon and Sunday school teacher. James proudly served our country in the United States Army and was a World War II veteran.
His memory will forever be cherished by his sons, James "Jimmy" DeFoe (Darleen) of Gray, Georgia; Ron "Ronny" DeFoe (Debra) of Jacksonville, Florida. Grandchildren, Sean (Stephanie) DeFoe, Heather (Clay) Fauquier, Virginia DeFoe, Whitney (Ryne) Duggan, and Travis DeFoe. Great grandchildren, Hannah, Sara, Emma, Zach and Addyson. Brothers, Jerry DeFoe of Seattle, Washington; John Culverhouse (Sharon) of Warner Robins, Georgia, and a sister, Martha Gail Veal of Macon.
