**Obituary for James Newt Corlee**
It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of James Newt Corlee, who departed this life on Sunday, January 4th, 2026, at the age of 88. James was born on Sunday, December 19th, 1937, in Blakely, Georgia, and later became a cherished resident of Byron, GA.
A beloved husband, father, grandfather, and friend, James is survived by his devoted wife of 66 years, Lucille H. Corlee. He leaves behind a legacy of love and family through his son, David (Vangie) Corlee of Byron, and his daughter, Donna (Cale) Yawn of Eastman. He was a proud and doting grandfather to Garrett (Sarah) Yawn, Briana (Quincy) Tanner, and Brooke Corlee.
James was preceded in death by his parents, Luther and Zemmie Corlee; his brother, Oneal Corlee; and his sister, Ilene Turner.
James attended Georgetown High School in Georgetown, GA, and spent many dedicated years working as a truck driver for Betz Labs. A hardworking and passionate man, James immersed himself in the joys of hunting and fishing and cherished camping trips in Hiwassee, Pigeon Forge, and Milan, GA. His love for family, the great outdoors, and his community was evident to all who knew him. He also enjoyed playing slow pitch softball until his mid 50's for Mount Pleasant Baptist Church. James' happiest moments were watching his children and grandchildren play various sports.
An active member of Mikado Baptist Church, James served faithfully as a greeter, welcoming all with warmth and hospitality. His commitment to his faith and to helping others was a hallmark of his character.
A visitation will be held at Fairhaven Funeral Home in Macon, Georgia, on Friday, January 9th, 2026, from 11:00 am to 12:00 pm, followed by a funeral service at the Chapel of Fairhaven Funeral Home at 12:00 pm. Those who wish to honor James's memory are invited to make donations to Mikado Baptist Church.
