Jacquelyn Sorrels Jones, 85, of Macon, died at home on August 6, 2017 after a short illness.
Funeral services for Mrs. Jacquelyn Marie Sorrels Jones are scheduled for Wednesday, August 9, 2017 at 11:00 a.m. at Mt. Pleasant Baptist Church. Family will receive friends at 10:00 a.m. preceding the service at the church. Services will be led by Reverend Lee Griffin and Reverend Franklin Etheridge. Burial will be immediately following in the church cemetery.
Jackie was born on November 20, 1931 in Macon, GA, to the late George Washington Sorrels and Josephine Walton Sorrels. She graduated from A.L. Miller High School in 1950. She retired from the Department of the Air Force at Robins Air Force Base, after a long career as a budget analyst. Jackie was a 60 year member of Mt. Pleasant Baptist Church where she was a member of the Ruth Bible Class. In her earlier years, Jackie enjoyed camping in the Great Smokey Mountains with her late husband.
Jackie was preceded in death by her husband of 59 years, George Carlton Jones. She was also preceded by 3 brothers and 3 sisters.
Survivors include her children: George Randall Jones and his wife, Nancy, Auburn, AL; Steven Carlton Jones and his wife, Gayle, Byron, Ga; Carla Marie Jones, Macon, Ga; and Jeffrey Lynn Jones and his wife, Cathy, Musella, Ga. Also surviving are her grandchildren: Jennifer Jones Bowers and her husband Alan, Warner Robins, Ga and their children Emmie, Allie and Owen. Preston Harris Jones and his wife, Meredith of Agoura Hills, CA, and their children, Coralyn and Lillian; Brooke Hawk Whitlock and her husband, Timothy and their son Aeden of Clio, Ga; Lindsay Jones Yasin and her husband Ross of Perry, Ga and their children, Nora and Henry; Alana Jones Schilthuis and her husband Peter of Mobile, Al and their children, Emma and James; Joshua Dylan Jones of Musella, Ga.
She is also survived by her sister, Shirley Sorrels Horne and her husband Tommy of Savannah, Ga; her sister-in-law, Kathleen Harris of Macon Ga; and her brother-in-law Leonard "Bud" Avera of Macon, Ga; and her life-long friend and sister in spirit, Marie Graham Harris of Macon, Ga.
