Henry Sweat

Henry Mercer Sweat; 98, crossed into eternity on Saturday, June 30, 2018. Funeral services will be held Tuesday, July 3, 2018 at 11:00 a.m. in the Porterfield Baptist Church. Burial will follow in Glen Haven Memorial Gardens. Reverend Chris Dotson will officiate. The family will have a time of visitation on Tuesday, July 3, 2018 from 10:00 a.m. till service time in the church.
Raised on a farm in Truetlen County, he was the son of the late Johnny Washington Sweat and the late Minnie Lee Morris Sweat.
Inducted into the U.S. Army in October of 1941, he saw combat in North Africa and Italy fighting the Nazi tyranny.
Married in April of 1945 to Edna Davis, she was his bride of 63 years prior to her death. An employee of the Southern Railway for 31 years, he was local Chairman of The Brotherhood Railway Carmen of America and Canada in the 1960's and early 1970's. With approximately forty other families he was a founder of Windsor Academy in Macon. Also with his wife, he was the co-owner of Sweat's Barbeque near Warner Robins for 16 years. In his eighties, he was honored to serve as a Deacon of Porterfield Baptist Church. He was preceded in death by a son, Hayward Sweat, Brothers, Douglas, Willard, Cecil and Russell Sweat; sister, Ruby Nell Edge.
He is survived by his children, Don Sweat, Faye Mitchell (Bill) and Sheila Moore(Tommy); Brothers, Jack Sweat and Mike Sweat(Kathy); Sister, Aillene Williams. Four Grandchildren, Fourteen great grandchildren and two great great grandchildren.
