Grayson Bernard Lipford, age 88, of Macon, Georgia passed away on Monday afternoon, June 19, 2023 at Pine Pointe Hospice.
Born August 27, 1934 in Chesterfield, Virginia, the son of a farmer and father Grayson Dennis Lipford and mother Nannie Francis (Moore) Lipford, brother to fourteen brothers and sisters.
Grayson served in the U.S. Navy aboard the USS Albany and the USS Newport News. He later graduated from the Navy Building Construction school, and was a team member of the Seabees that built landing strips, barracks, and the power plant at Guantanamo Bay, Cuba. He was employed for 38 years by Brown and Williamson Tobacco Corporation in Petersburg, Virgina, later transferring to Macon, Georgia. He was also self-employed as a builder, building and remodeling houses throughout his life.
He is survived by his wife of 68 years, Joyce Marie (Wilson) Lipford; children, Grayson B. Lipford, Jr., and Constance Marie Kent (Stuart); grandchildren, Eric Scherer and Sophia Scherer of Murnau am Stafelsee, Bavaria, Megan Kent of Los Angeles, CA, James P. Kent (Hédi) of Macon, GA, and Stuart D. Kent, Jr. of Bellevue, Washington; great-grandchildren, Maya Kent and Arthur Kent. He was preceded in death by two sons, Dale Lipford and James Lipford. He was the last surviving member of fifteen siblings.
Funeral services to honor his life will be held Friday, June 23, 2023 at 11:00 a.m. in the Chapel of Fairhaven Funeral Home with Rev. William Davis and Rev. Troy White officiating. The family will accept friends from 10:00 - 11:00a.m. for a time of visitation at Fairhaven. Graveside service will be immediately following at Glen Haven Memorial Gardens Mausoleum.
