Gordon Erle Mills, 86, went home to be with his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, Tuesday, February 27, 2018. He passed away at home surrounded by family members he loved deeply. Funeral Services to celebrate his life will be held Friday, March 2, 2018 at 11:00 a.m. at First Baptist Church of Fort Valley. Later that afternoon, at 3:30, Erle will be laid to rest at Hebron Baptist Church Cemetery in Americus, Georgia. The family will have a time of visitation Thursday, March 1, 2018 from 6:00-8:00 p.m. at FairHaven Funeral Home, 4989 Mount Pleasant Church Rd, Macon.
Erle was born in Sumter County Georgia., and was a graduate of Plains High School. He was the son of the late Robert Jackson Mills and Elsie Melvin Mills. He was preceded in death by his two brothers, Robert Alan Mills and David Oliver Mills.
Mr. Mills worked as an exterminator technician for Getz Pest Control, retired as a City Marshall of Fort Valley and previously served as deacon at Chamblee Baptist Church and was a member of the First Baptist Church of Ft. Valley. . Erle was a veteran of the United States Air Force, serving during the Korean War.
Erle was an avid fisherman in his free time and loved working outside at home. In his later years Mr. Mills enjoyed reading the Bible and praying for others in need. Erle especially loved spending time with his soulmate Betty.
He is survived by his loving wife of 63 years Betty West Mills of Byron. One son Donnie Mills and his wife Shawn. Four grandchildren, Clint, Abby, Jacob, and Jared, as well as a number of nieces and nephews.
He was disabled in body for almost 19 years, but never in spirit. He was a joy to visit and an inspiration to all who had this privilege. His heart's desire was to be a witness of God's love. He enjoyed his last years through the care and Help of his personal caregivers Cheryl, Tasha, and Ronda. The Mills family would also like to thank Heartland Hospice for their care over the past few months.
