Gordon Hill

February 26, 1953 — June 28, 2023

Gordon Scott Hill, 70, of Perry, passed away on Wednesday, June 28, 2023 in the presence of his loving family. Memorial services will be privately held at a later date.

Gordon was born on February 26, 1953, in Glen Cove, New York, to the late Dr. Douglas Hill and Mrs. Ruth Arlene Blake Hill. As a kid, Gordon learned to sail a 13 foot Boston Whaler in Long Island's Huntington Bay, and he carried his love of sailing with him throughout his life. He earned Associate and Bachelor degrees in Aeronautical Science, along with a Master degree in Technical Management, from Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University. Gordon retired from Northrop Grumman Corporation after 35 years of service as an aerospace engineer. During his long career he worked primarily on the Joint STARS program in both Melbourne, FL and at Robins Air Force Base in Warner Robins, GA, specializing in radar systems for the E-2C and E-8 aircrafts. He registered U.S. Patent #4,799,063 - Method and Apparatus for Isolating Faults in an Antenna System, January 17, 1989.

Gordon had a great mechanical mind and from childhood onward spent much of his free time building highly detailed model cars, airplanes, ships, and trains. He was an avid reader whose interests spanned maritime, aviation, and military history as well as politics. He enjoyed sailing, swimming in the pool, bird watching, weather journaling, chess, movies, cooking fondue, home fries and press cookies, and decorating for the holidays. His favorite Christmas movie was 'The Grinch who Stole Christmas', and he sent his daughters Snoopy greeting cards for almost every occasion. When asked about his religion, he always said that he "believed in Santa Claus and the Easter Bunny.'' In his retirement, he was a proud member of the Academy of Model Aeronautics, Perry R.C. Flyers club. Gordon's musical taste was far ranging and included showtunes, Irish traditionals, sea shanties, the Beach Boys, Americana, and country. His eclectic mixtapes are treasured by his children.

Gordon was preceded in death by his devoted wife, Suzanne Thomas Hill. Left to cherish Gordon's memory are his daughters Gwendolyn Hill (Chris Genua) and Kathleen Littlefield (Matt Littlefield); stepdaughter Heath Keirstead (Dave Pitot); granddaughter Autumn Littlefield; step granddaughters Ketzel and Piper Pitot; brother Jeffrey Hill; sister Heather Hill Worthington (Jeff Worthington); niece and nephew Blake and Breton Worthington; stepson Burton T. Jarrett III; stepdaughter Michelle Shea (Patrick Shea); step grandchildren Tripp and Reagyn Shea; first wife Lisa Longacre (Robert Longacre); and oldest childhood friend, Robert Flynn.

"And the waves we leave behind us
Seem to murmur as they flow,
There's a hearty welcome waitin',
In the land to which you'll go.

Rolling home, rolling home,
Rolling home across the sea,
Rolling home to dear New England,
Rolling home dear land to thee."

Donations in Gordon's memory may be made to the Smithsonian National Air and Space Museum, Long Island's Cradle of Aviation Museum, or Mystic Seaport Museum.
