Geraldine "Jeri" Powell

Geraldine ("Jeri") Powell, 86, of Macon, passed away at a local hospital on Tuesday, July 6, 2021.
A funeral service is scheduled for Monday, July 12, at 2 p.m. at FairHaven Funeral Home, 4989 Mount Pleasant Church Road, Macon, GA 31216, with Rev. Steve Womack officiating. The family will greet friends from 1 p.m. until the service time, at the same location. Burial will follow at Glen Haven Memorial Gardens, 7070 Houston Road, Macon, GA 31216.
Jeri was born to the late Fred and Noba Barnes in Sylva, NC, on October 28, 1934, and she graduated from Sylva Central High School in 1952. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 34 years, J.T. Powell; a sister, Pomella Barnes; and a brother, Glenn Barnes.
She was a long-time member of Lizella Baptist Church in Lizella, but had attended St. Andrew Christian Church in Macon during the more recent years. She worked as a bookkeeper for Rosemont Gardens Wholesale Florist in Macon for over 25 years, until the Macon branch was sold. She then worked for several years in the JC Penney catalog department in the Macon Mall.
Jeri was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother, and loved visits from friends and family. As an avid dog lover and dog owner for many years, she was very grateful for her friends and neighbors who were always willing to share their pets with her, especially once she could no longer care for one of her own.
She is survived by her daughter, Lynn Bridger, son-in-law Jeff Bridger, and granddaughter, Cassi Harrison, all of Byron, GA; her brothers, Jim Barnes (Evelyn) and Joe Barnes (Mary Darcus), of Sylva, NC; her sisters, Linda Jiles (James) of Waynesville, NC, and Helen Hankins of Thomasville, NC; many beloved nieces and nephews; and her neighbor and best friend, Gloria Hicks.
Flowers, cards or memorial donations are welcome. Donations may be made to the Humane Society of Jackson County in Sylva, NC, or to any dog shelter or rescue of the donors' choice.
