George Everett Levya, 80, of Macon, Georgia, died at his home on Wednesday, September 3, 2025.
George was born in Youngstown, Ohio on September 15, 1944, to Mary (Louchman) and John Levya. He attended school at Frankin & Marshall College in Lancaster, Pennsylvania studying economics. Afterwards he got a law degree from the University of South Carolina. He joined the Peace Corps after college and spent a year and a half in India. Upon his return he joined the U.S. Air Force where he served both active duty and as a reservist for 32 years. In his spare time, he enjoyed sailing and soccer.
In 1981 he met the love of his life Freda and in December of 1983 he took leave so they could have a Christmas wedding with Freda's family in Texas. After his retirement in 1999 they settled in Macon, Georgia. They enjoyed travelling and took their RV on a yearlong trip throughout the United States and parts of Canada visiting friends and family. He enjoyed helping people and he was the organizer of the Holy Spirit prayer chain long before he officially joined the Catholic Church Easter 2022.
He is survived by his wife Freda; his stepchildren Elaine Peery, Janet Davies (Mark), Robert Devlin (Cynde) and Michael Devlin (Dee); 7 grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
A wake service and rosary for the peaceful repose of his soul will be prayed on Friday, September 12
th
at 6:00 p.m. A Mass celebrating his life will be on Saturday, September 13
th
at 11:00 a.m. Both will be at Holy Spirit Catholic Church, 4074 Chambers Rd. Macon, Georgia 31206, with Fr. Steven Pavignano, ofm officiating. Interment will be at Beaufort National Cemetery at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations to Holy Spirit Catholic Church would be greatly appreciated.
