Ernest Gomer Jump, Jr., "Pop," 93, of Fort Valley, passed away on Saturday, February 24, 2024. Funeral services to honor his life will be held on Wednesday, February 28, at 11:00 AM in the chapel of FairHaven Funeral Home with Pastor, Eddie Coatney officiating. Immediately following, Mr. Jump will be laid to rest in Glen Haven Memorial Gardens. The family will greet friends one hour prior to service time.
Mr. Jump was born on March 23, 1930, in Hazelhurst, Georgia, to the late Mr. Ernest Gomer Jump, Sr. and Mrs. Bessie Meeler Jump. He retired from Armstrong World Industries after 42 years of service, where he worked as a heavy equipment mechanic. Mr. Jump served on the Crawford County Board of Commissioners for eight years and was of the Baptist faith. He was a Scottish Rite Mason and a Shriner where he was a member of the Al Sihah Temple in Macon. Mr. Jump was an accomplished fiddle player that earned him the great honor of being inducted to the Atlanta Music Hall of Fame.
In addition to his parents, Mr. Jump was preceded in death by his children, Alicia Peters and Terry Jump; and brother, D.L. Jump.
Left to cherish Mr. Jump's memory is his wife of 60 years, Annie Joyce Wooten Jump; sons, Dale Jump (Rachel) and Dean Jump (Collen); grandchildren and great-grandchildren; and sisters, Louise Claxton and Beulah Edwards.
