Effie Mae Rogers, "Grandma", a beloved resident of Macon, Georgia, passed away peacefully on Friday, August 7th, 2026, at the age of 89. Born on October 31st, 1936, in Eastman, Georgia, Effie, a faithful, godly woman, lived a life full of love, dedication, and warmth that touched the hearts of many.
Effie is survived by her loving children: Jimmy L (Marie) Rogers of Macon, GA, Donald Lee (Lisa) Rogers, Shelia Rogers Wasden, Deborah F. Silvey, and Janice Marie Huff. She also leaves behind her brother, Delmar Bohannon, and his wife Pam, along with an extensive family of 11 grandchildren, 38 great-grandchildren, and 8 great-great-grandchildren, who will all cherish her memory. Effie was preceded in death by her parents, Willie Frank Bohannon and Rachel Leomia Bohannon, her beloved spouse Valda L Rogers, and her son-in-law, Ricky Wasden.
Effie was a retired manager from Piggly Wiggly, where she dedicated many years of service with diligence and integrity. Though her formal education concluded at the 7th grade, Effie was a lifelong learner and teacher in her own right, imparting wisdom and life lessons to her family and friends.
Family was the cornerstone of Effie's life. She was known for her incredible cooking, always ready to whip up a meal for loved ones and strangers alike. Effie's home was a bustling hub of activity, filled with laughter and love, as she never met a stranger and was always on the go.
A graveside service to honor and celebrate Effie's life will be held at Glen Haven Memorial Gardens in Macon, Georgia, on Tuesday, August 11th, 2026, at 11:00 am. Friends and family are invited to attend and pay their respects. Reverend Henderson Carswell will officiate.
Effie Mae Rogers leaves behind a legacy of love, kindness, and community spirit that will continue to inspire all who knew her. She will be deeply missed and fondly remembered.
