Eddie Eugene Adkins, of Dry Branch, Georgia, passed away on October 29, 2026, leaving behind a legacy of hard work, dedication, and love for his family. A proud veteran, devoted husband and father, and hardworking man, Eddie lived a life defined by perseverance, self-reliance, and the simple joys that meant the most to him.
Born on April 26, 1948, in Macon, Georgia, Eddie was the son of the late Mr. Homer Washington Adkins and Mrs. Sarah Frances Adkins. Throughout his life, he was known as an extremely hard worker who took pride in providing for his family and building something meaningful with his own two hands.
Eddie proudly served his country in the United States Army, where he was stationed in Germany during the Vietnam War. Following his military service, he dedicated many years of hard work to the Norfolk Southern Railroad, where he eventually retired. Never one to sit idle for long, Eddie went on to build his own home by hand, a remarkable accomplishment that reflected his determination, resourcefulness, and strong work ethic. He later devoted his time to working his 40-acre farm, where he raised cattle and continued doing what he loved.
Though Eddie was a man who knew the value of hard work, he also understood the importance of enjoying life's simple pleasures. He loved spending time fishing and playing his harmonica, finding happiness in the moments that brought him peace and contentment. Above all else, Eddie loved his family. His greatest legacy will not be measured by the home he built or the land he worked, but by the love he shared, the memories he created, and the lasting impression he made on those fortunate enough to know him.
In addition to his parents, Eddie was preceded in death by his loving wife of nearly 50 years, Rose Marie Adkins; his daughter, Tammy Ogles; his brothers, James Adkins, Curtis Adkins, and E.W. Adkins; and his sisters, Ruby Louise Warren and Jewell Adkins.
Left to cherish his memory are his daughter, Sharon Ogles; his son, Bobby (Dana) Ogles; his brother, Herbert Adkins; his sisters, Dollie Sanders and Evelyn (Douglas) Newberry; six beloved grandchildren; and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and extended family members who will forever hold him close in their hearts.
Eddie's life was a testament to the value of hard work, the strength of family, and the pride that comes from building a life with your own two hands. Though he will be deeply missed, the lessons he taught, the memories he leaves behind, and the love he gave will continue to live on through the generations of his family.
A funeral service to celebrate Eddie's life may take place at a future date. Additional service information will be announced as it becomes available.
