A celebration of her extraordinary life will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, August 23, 2025, at FairHaven Funeral Home, with Pastor Lee Griffin officiating. Family and friends are invited to gather for a time of visitation beginning at 10:00 a.m., prior to the service.
Born on February 17, 1929, in Macon, Georgia, Dorothy was the beloved daughter of the late Mr. James Sanderson and Mrs. Russell Sanderson. She lived a life overflowing with kindness, adventure, and unwavering faith. To know Dorothy was to know joy, compassion, and a deep and abiding love for her family and her Lord.
Dorothy was a woman of rare spirit; equal parts gentle and fearless. Even at 96, she could be found laughing her way through a roller coaster ride at Disney World, a place she faithfully visited twice a year. Her love for Disney was a reflection of her eternal sense of wonder and fun. She never met a stranger, and her warm, welcoming heart left a mark on everyone she met.
Whether she was hunting for treasures at yard sales, bargain shopping at her favorite Bin store, affectionately dubbed "the Dump", or enjoying time with her grandchildren, Dorothy approached life with energy and delight. She found joy in simple things and taught her family to do the same.
She was preceded in death by her loving husband of nearly 60 years, WD Parks; her son, Leonard Parks; her daughter, Rena (Terry) Byrd; her brothers, JW Sanderson, Alton Sanderson, Rayburn Sanderson, Leon Sanderson, Bill Sanderson; and her sisters, Drucella Ashe and Linda Lynch.
Dorothy leaves behind a legacy of love and laughter in her children: Jim (Dale) Parks, Wayne (Amanda) Parks, Pearl (Roland) White, Victoria (Sammy) White, and Lisa (Tarver) Finney; 12 grandchildren, including Benjamin and Candice Finney, with whom she shared a home, and 17 great-grandchildren, including her cherished great-granddaughter, Jay Lynn Parks, lovingly known as "Her Heart."
Dorothy Mae Parks lived her life with purpose, generosity, and an unwavering faith that inspired everyone blessed to know her. She will be deeply missed, lovingly remembered, and forever celebrated.
