Donald West

February 14, 1939 — June 14, 2023

Donald Joe West, 84, of Macon, passed away on Wednesday, June 14, 2023. The family will have a time of visitation on Monday, June 19, at 1:00 PM at FairHaven Funeral Home. After which family and friends are invited to a graveside service at 2:00 PM at Glen Haven Memorial Gardens on Houston Road in Macon.
Don was born on February 14, 1939 in Tifton, Georgia to the late Mr. William Joseph West and Mrs. Estelle Taylor West. He proudly served his country in the United States Air National Guard from which he retired after 20 years of service. He retired from Robins Air Force Base after 30 plus years of service where he worked as a computer programmer. He was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints where he faithfully served in many capacities such as Bishop for five years, clerk of the church, president of the young men's organization, and a leader in Boy Scout Troop 289 as well as a seminary teacher. Don was a valiant servant of his Heavenly Father and Jesus Christ.
Don was preceded in death by his brother, Jackie Derrell West and son-in-law, Dr. William H. Terry III.
He held a special place in his heart for his family. His grandchildren and great- grandchildren were blessed by his love and corny jokes.
Don loved the outdoors, especially hunting and fishing. He had a soft spot for all animals and over the years he raised cattle, donkeys, goats, and a prize-winning rooster. He also loved "tinkering" and always had several projects going. He never had idle hands! Don spent many hours serving others – family, friends, strangers, and victims of natural disasters all over the South. He loved baseball and was an avid Braves fan. Don coached his son and grandsons through many years of T-ball and little league.
Left to cherish his memory is his loving wife of 63 years, Leola Lanell Durden West; children, Terri West Terry, Sandra Austin (Mike), and Jason Eugene West; grandchildren, Justin Bell (Tallie), Jared Bell, Kayla Page, Amelia Gottom, Cole Austin, and Olivia Austin; and great-grandchildren, Brynlee Bell, Dallin Bell, Brayden Bell, and Tryson Bell. Several nieces and nephews.
