Debra Lynn Fitzgerald Cohen, 62, of Macon, passed away on Monday, June 29, 2026. A celebration of her life will be held on Thursday, July 2, at 2:00 PM at First Evangelical Church, 3601 Fulton Mill Rd, Macon, GA 31206, with Reverend, Tim Long officiating. The family will greet friends one hour prior to service time.
Mrs. Cohen was born on September 4, 1963, in Americus, Georgia, to the late Mr. George Wiggins and Mrs. Wynelle Story Wiggins. Above all else, Mrs. Cohen treasured her role as a grandmother. Her grandchildren were the greatest joy of her life, and she cherished every moment spent with them, creating countless memories filled with love, laughter, and unwavering devotion. Her family was the center of her world, and she took immense pride in watching each of them grow.
Mrs. Cohen found happiness in life's simple pleasures. She enjoyed watching birds visit her yard, listening to her favorite music, and spending quiet moments surrounded by nature. A devoted animal lover, she had a special affection for cats and horses, whose companionship brought her great comfort and joy throughout her life.
Known for her warm hospitality, Mrs. Cohen was an exceptional cook who could prepare just about any casserole imaginable. Her kitchen was a place where family and friends gathered, and her home was always filled with the comforting aromas of home-cooked meals made with love. Sharing food was one of the many ways she expressed her care for those around her.
In her younger years, Mrs. Cohen enjoyed gymnastics, a pastime that reflected her energy, determination, and adventurous spirit. She will be remembered for her kind heart, nurturing nature, and the love she so freely gave to her family, special cousins, friends, and beloved animals. Her legacy of compassion, generosity, and devotion will continue to live on in the hearts of all who knew and loved her.
Left to cherish Mrs. Cohen’s memory are her husband of 28 years, Joseph “Joey” Cohen; children, Chris Fitzgerald (Melissa), Cody Fitzgerald (Alison), Josh Fitzgerald (Joy), and Macy Taylor (Michael); bonus children, Heather Graham and Jessica Neesmith (Brooks); 16 grandchildren; special cousins, Suzanne Linder-Goswick, Bobby Perdue, and Jeff Perdue; and a host of extended family members.
