Charles Wilson Taylor, 84, loving husband, father, and proud United States Air Force Veteran won his battle with Alzheimer's and passed away peacefully at his residence Monday, January 15, 2018. Funeral Services to honor his life will be held Thursday, January 18, 2018 at 2:00 p.m. at Unity Baptist Church with Pastor Jeffrey Powell and Dr. Michael Maschenik officiating. Immediately following the service, Charles will be laid to rest in New Elim Baptist Church Cemetery with full military honors. The family will have a time of visitation to greet friends Wednesday January 17, 2018 from 6:00-8:00 p.m. at FairHaven Funeral Home, 4989 Mount Pleasant Church Road, Macon
Born December 21, 1933 in Butler, Kentucky, to the late Howard Wilson and Lorene Payne Taylor, Charles enlisted in the Air Force in 1954 and began his over 20 year career in the military. He married the love of his life Viola B. Vanderwende on July 16, 1956 at the chapel on Dover Air Force Base. Charles and Vi raised two precious children. Charles retired in 1974 from the Air Force, as a staff sergeant where he received the Air Force Commendation Medal. After his retirement Charles worked for the Civil Service for the next 14, making a total of 34 years of loyal service to the United States. In 1988 the Department of the Air Force presented him with a Sustained Superior Performance Award. Charles was a lifetime member of the Moose Lodge as well as an avid bowler. He was a lifetime member of the Macon Bowling Association, as well as a former director.In 2009 Charles received the 30 Year National Bowling Service Award in Las Vegas, for 30 years of continuous membership. For 28 years, Charles was a member of New Elim Baptist Church where he served as a Deacon. In February of 2002 he became one of organizers and charter members of Unity Baptist Church.
Charles was preceded in death by his parents as well as his daughter; Vanessa C. Rozier. Grandson; Dalton Allan Rozier. As well as two sisters: Julia Slucher and Darlene Caverly.
Left to cherish his memory and carry on his legacy is his loving wife of 61 ½ years, Viola Taylor. Son; Charles W. Taylor, "Chuck". Grandchildren; Brittany Archer, Heather Key (Brandon), Brycen C. Taylor, and Daniel B. Taylor. And a Son-in-law; Allan Rozier.
