Charles Edward Smith, 70, of Macon, passed away on Saturday, November 16, 2024. A memorial service to honor his life will be held on Monday, November 25, 2024, at 3:00 PM in the Chapel of Fairhaven Funeral Home. The family invites friends to join them for a time of visitation one hour prior to the service. Pastor Phil Bryant will officiate.
Mr. Smith was born on October 24, 1954, in Hawkinsville, Georgia, to the late Mr. James Smith and Mrs. Frances Ophelia Barrett Smith. Charles was a devoted employee of First Quality for 28 years, where he obtained a lead position in shipping. He was a hardworker, that started in his early years at Hudson Farms. From this, he learned to farm and grow his own gardens. He took pride in his ability to split wood, this earned him the nickname, "Woodchuck." Above all else, his family was most important to him. Charles most cherished title was, "PawPaw." He didn't take this role lightly and spent many hours nurturing his grandchildren. He was able to teach the boys how to water ski, hunt, and fish, and made countless memories with all of them. He will be dearly missed by all those who knew and loved him, especially by his best friend and loyal companion, Queen.
In addition to his parents, Mr. Smith was preceded in death by his granddaughter, Kailey Peterman; brother, Ed Henry Smith; and brother-in-law, Richard Myers.
Left to cherish Mr. Smith's memory are his wife of 36 years, Bonnie Smith; sons, Rusty Hill (Keisha), Timmy Hill (Trena), and Jonthan Hill; brother, James Smith (Alice); sister, Mary Myers; grandchildren, Devin Hill, Stephen Hill, Cory Yawn, Logan Yawn, Seth Peterman, Kelsey Peterman, Dawson Hill, Ashton Hill, and Jaylynn Parks; great-grandchildren, Abel, Lana, Chloe, Avery, Beanet, Gracie, Christian, Kali, Easton, Clayton, and Madison.
