Buddy Collins

April 17, 1945 — January 4, 2024

James Lee "Buddy" Collins, Sr., 78, of Lizella, went home to be with his Lord and Savior on Thursday, January 4, 2024. Funeral services to honor his life, will be held on Monday, January 8, at 11:00 AM at the Church in the Orchard, 881 Taylors Mill Road, Fort Valley, Georgia 31030. Immediately following, Buddy will be laid to rest in Serenity Memorial Gardens, 8570 Eisenhower Parkway, Lizella, Georgia 31052. The family will have a time of visitation on Sunday, January 7, from 2:00 PM to 4:00 PM at FairHaven Funeral Home.

Buddy was born and raised in Clayton, Georgia, to the late Mr. Julian Meadows Collins and Mrs. Lula Day Trusty Collins. He was employed with the city of Macon for many years, working as a mechanic and retiring as Senior Citizens Coordinator. Buddy was a Christian man, strong in his faith, with strong Christian values. He was a member of God's Worship Center, where he served as deacon and coordinator of One Step Addiction Recovery Program. He spent much of his free time hunting, fishing, raising Labrador Retrievers, listening to music, clogging and dancing. Buddy was passionate about sports such as NASCAR with his favorite driver being Dale Earnhardt, Sr., he coached baseball and softball, and eventually formed a softball team for senior citizens. Above all else, Buddy was a family man. His family was what mattered most.

Buddy was preceded in death by his siblings, Mildred Ensley, Randy Collins, and Everett Collins, and brother-in-law, Larry Pruett.

Left to forever cherish Buddy's memory is his loving wife of 58 years, Elaine Blessitt Collins; children, Jimmy Collins (Stacey), Tammy Porter (Steve), and Angel Collins; grandchildren, Blake Porter, Josh Collins (Shaunna), Jeramie Collins (Erin), Jenny Fernandez (Eduard), Seth Porter, and Hope Tarpley; many great-grandchildren; sisters, Edith Pruett and Lillian Collins; sister-in-law, Charlotte Collins; and several nieces and nephews.
