Betty Jean Newberry, 89, of Lizella, Georgia, went to be with her Lord on Thursday May 8, 2025, surrounded by her loving family. A funeral service to honor her life will be 10:00 AM Tuesday May 13, 2025, at Calvary Baptist Church 5046 Fulton Mill Rd, Macon, GA 31216. The Family invites friends to join them for a time of visitation one hour prior to services. Immediately following services Betty will be laid to rest next her loving husband of 57 Years Benjamin "Frankie" Newberry at Bethel Baptist Church Cemetery. Pastor Benjamin Newberry will be officiating all services.
Betty was born April 17, 1936, in Arabi, Georgia to the late Mr. Elijah Monroe Smith and Mrs. Lillian Nipper Smith. She lived a life full of passion, creativity, and love. A woman whose vibrant spirit left an indelible mark on everyone who knew her. Deeply devoted to her family, she found joy in nurturing them with delicious home-cooked meals and warm laughter. A gifted artist and talented seamstress, her hands created beauty in countless forms, from intricate stitches to imaginative works of art. Betty had a fierce love for Holstein cows, showing them competitively with such skill and pride that she earned a place on the cover of National Holstein magazine. Her adventurous heart thrived outdoors, she was an avid fisherwoman, and later in life, found peace on the trail with her beloved horse, Chief. In her youth, she was athletic and full of energy, playing softball and basketball with determination and grace. Entirely self-educated, Betty possessed deep wisdom, a powerful gift of persuasion, and a wildly creative imagination. Her sharp wit and love of jokes brought joy to every gathering. A woman of deep faith, she was also a passionate Sunday school teacher, sharing her love of scripture and inspiring countless young hearts along the way. Betty's legacy is one of strength, joy, and an unwavering zest for life, she will be deeply missed and forever cherished.
In addition to her parents she is predeceased by her brother, Elijah "Sonny" Smith; sisters, Jimmie Bryant, and Lucille Winters.
Left to cherish her memory are her sons, Donald (Cindy) Newberry, Douglas Newberry, Tim Newberry; daughters, Beverly (Harold) Boyce, Cheryl McKenzie, Vickie "Jo" (Scott) Stokes; sister, Jackie Haymons; twelve grandchildren; twenty-six great grandchildren; four great great grandchildren; many nieces, nephews, cousins, and extended family.
