The world feels a little quieter today. Andy H. Byrd, of Macon, Georgia, passed away on Monday, July 27, 2026, leaving behind a legacy of love, humor, and resilience that will echo for generations.
If you knew Andy, you knew his laugh—bright, contagious, impossible to forget. You knew his generosity, the way he showed up for people without being asked. You knew his stubborn determination, which carried him through challenges with grace and grit.
Born in Macon, Georgia, on June 3, 1981, Andy grew into someone who believed in hard work, in family, and in finding joy in the everyday. He spent his life doing what mattered most: loving deeply, giving freely, and making sure the people around him felt seen.
Andy was the son of the late Susan Simmons McGettigan and the late Jerry R. Byrd. He is also preceded in death by his grandfather, Jimmy Wayne Simmons, Sr., and his uncle, Jimmy Wayne Simmons, Jr.
His love and devotion to his Granny, Carrie Simmons, was like no other—an unbreakable bond that shaped his heart and his life. They were the beat of each other’s heart.
He leaves behind his Granny, Carrie Simmons, his stepfather, Scotty McGettigan, Dolly, his little “ferocious mountain lion”, extended family, and a host of friends who were considered his family. Andy was the kind of man who made sure his family and friends were okay before himself—steadfast, selfless, and always ready to lift someone else’s burden. A funeral service to celebrate Andy's life is scheduled for Thursday, July 30, 2026 2:00 PM in the Chapel of FairHaven Funeral Home. The family and friends will have a time of visitation on Thursday, from 1:00 PM until 2:00 PM, one hour before the service.
