Alverne Shurley

Alverne W. Shurley, 92, of Macon, passed away peacefully June 5, 2026, surrounded by the love of her family. She was born on July 10, 1933, in Thomaston, Ga. to Loyette Fallin Winslett and Ernest Eugene Winslett.
She was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 64 years, George R. Shurley, with whom she shared a lifetime of love and devotion, sister, Ernestine Gibson and brother, Kenneth Winslett..
Alverne, best known as “Ms. Al”, was a dedicated and hardworking professional who served at a law firm in Macon for more than 50 years. She was respected for her commitment, kindness, and steady presence by all who had the privilege of knowing and working alongside her.
A faithful member of Ingleside Baptist Church, Alverne lived a life grounded in faith, compassion, and service to others. Above all else, she cherished her family and treasured every moment spent with her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.
She is survived by her children, Rob Shurley (Lynn) of Warner Robins, Rick Shurley (Missy) of Monroe NC, and Traci Humphries (Steve) of Sandersville. She also leaves behind her beloved grandchildren, Daniel Shurley, Lauren Shurley, Seth Shurley, Bennett Humphries, Collin Humphries (Kimberly), Ron Curenton (Melanie) and April Nelson, as well as her cherished great-grandchildren, Kaiden Shurley, Rylan Shurley, Emma Humphries, Logan Curenton, Alyssa Curenton, Alyson Curenton, Jasmine Ramos (Luis), Autumn Nelson, Savannah Nelson.
Alverne will be remembered for her gentle spirit, unwavering love for her family, strong faith, and the lasting impact she made on everyone around her. Her memory will forever remain in the hearts of those who knew and loved her.

A graveside service is scheduled for Thursday, June 11, 2026, 1 PM in Glen Haven Memorial Cemetery, 7070 Houston Road in Macon, Georgia. The Reverend Mark Hudgins will officiate.
