Alice Gertrude "Trudie" Merritt, 86, of Macon, passed away on Tuesday, October 26, 2021. A celebration of Ms. Merritt's life will be held on Saturday, October 30, at 2:00 PM at Lizella Baptist Church with the Reverend Chris Minton officiating. The family will greet friends one hour prior to service time. Ms. Merritt will be privately entombed in the Macon Memorial Park Mausoleum.
Trudie was born on February 1, 1935, in McCrae, Georgia, to the late Floyd Connell and Donnie Boyd Connell. She was devoted lifetime member of Lizella Baptist Church, where she was active in the Golden Fellowship class and the decorating committee. Trudie was a talented seamstress, working for Macon Manufacturing Shirt Company and Interior Bargains. She spent much of her free time sewing, doing alterations, and making crafts. Trudie's aprons won many awards over the years, including "Best in Show' at the Macon Cherry Blossom Festival. She also liked to garden and watch birds. Trudie's greatest joy came from being a wife, mom, and g-mama.
Ms. Merritt was preceded in death by her husband 28 years, Charles Wilfred Merritt; sisters, Odessa Smith and Naomi Andrews; and brothers, John Connell and Edward Connell.
Ms. Merritt is survived by children, Cindy Merritt (Bill Mulley) and Barry Merritt (Beth); grandchildren, Kyle Lucas, Aubrey Merritt, and Mason Merritt; sister, Bessie Joyce; and many nieces and nephews.
